Mid Hudson Aquatics was founded by Galen Franchek and John Berrio. For over 30 years, Galen has been coordinating swim lessons in the community and for over 20, she has been coaching swim. Mid Hudson Aquatics is a non-profit swim organization prioritizing inclusivity in swimming and water safety in Dutchess County. We are not a private school nor a franchise; we are a community-based swim program emphasizing inclusion and affordable programs because we believe swimming is a life skill to be shared with all. We grew up here, we swam here, and we understand what local really means!
We welcome every child, every age, every challenge to join us in making learning to swim and competitive swimming a part of their lives! Our Instructors and Coaches are a part of your neighborhood. Our programs were originally designed around Poughkeepsie District Swimmers but all are welcome as we expand in Dutchess County! Every swimmer is treated equally regardless of ability or challenge.
Our Programs
Learn to Swim & Water Safety
We offer Learn to Swim Programs for all ages, building water safety skills and confidence in a supportive environment. We are committed to making swimming accessible, including through our free learn-to-swim initiatives supported by grants and donations.
Mid Hudson Heatwaves Swim Team
Launched in 2017, the Mid Hudson Heatwaves is a year-round competitive swim team. Competitions are optional. However, the team promotes family values, fun, and hard work in a positive, inspiring environment. Life skills are emphasized with every swimmer on the team. As coaches and members of USA Swimming, we have access to the best training and certification program for coaches of any sport in the US.
